How New Yorkers Rallied to Answer One Teen’s Cry for Career Help (Wall Street Journal) Now, that is taking your future into your own hands. #Brilliant “Do you have a cool job and a big heart?,” read a sign taped to a New York City lightpole. 'Let me shadow you. I’m 16 pls.' The flyer is from high-school junior Avi Lichtenstein, who is so worried about his future that he’s asking strangers if he can follow them to work. 'Every night I’m like, 'What am I going to do with my life?,' " the curly-haired teen says. 'I just couldn’t put my mind to rest.' He came up with the plan last month. Using about $500 of his savings, he paid two guys he found on Craigslist to plaster the city with more than 300 flyers. His goal for the school year: follow one person a week to get a better idea of what he wants to do before he applies to colleges next year. It’s working. He’s shadowed a dog groomer, a radio show host and a ramen shop owner, and is reviewing requests from an airline captain and a tattoo artist. One went so well, he was offered a part-time job."

VIDEO: Reid returns! 45 days on, he's a little lighter, but even more adored — if possible (CBC) GANDER STORY "What did he eat? Where did he sleep? What, or who, did he meet along the way? How Reid, the large Bernadoodle, a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle, spent 45 days in and around the forests of Gander, N.L., will never be known — and that’s OK with his owner. 'He's a warrior,' said Carmel Reid. 'He took care of himself. And he figured out a way … to keep himself alive.' The three-year-old dog, who had never been off-leash, fled from a single-vehicle collision mid-afternoon on Aug. 21. While Carmel’s husband, Lorenzo, was being taken to hospital, people passing by said they saw Reid go into the nearby forest."
Three Italian ‘hobbits’ flew to Ireland to return this man’s ring — and it was precious (CBC) #LordsOfTheRing "On vacation in Italy this summer, Patrick Mohr was enjoying a carefree time in a beautiful mountain stream, catching his children as they leapt from a boulder, and then one of them grabbed his hand. In an instant, Mohr’s gold wedding ring slipped off and disappeared in the fast-moving water [...] Still, his wife remained hopeful. She asked the other men if they would help search for the ring and exchanged phone numbers with them in case it turned up. Filippo Palagi, one of the three friends, along with Nicola Malloggi and Edoardo Poggi, says they weren't particularly optimistic. Like Mohr, they assumed the ring was gone for good. But hoping to lift Mohr’s spirits, the three men conjured up a legend of their own: they would find the golden ring and return it to its rightful owner in a Lord of the Rings-style quest — an epic journey that, they joked, would take more than a thousand years."
