TBA Online Events:

TBA: It’s 1995. We are being told that the largest intergenerational transfer of wealth in history is about to happen. And philanthropy is definitely going to be at the center of this transfer. We are fundraisers. We are excited. Wow! It’s 2022. We are still being told that this transfer is “about” to happen. What? What happened? Why didn’t these trillions of dollars in wealth transfer happen? Or…if it did, did we miss it? Did it bypass philanthropy? Were we asleep at the switch? Join us as we explore: Intergenerational Wealth Transfer. Was it it a Hoax? Or, is it Still Happening With a Wee Bit of Delay?

TBA: Board diversity. Pay equity. Equity. Diversity. We are finally getting around to putting some real action behind these words. Board membership is changing. More women are on boards. Pay equity appears to be moving, albeit, slowly, towards where it needs to be, i.e., towards equal pay for equal work. But…but there are definate setbacks, slowdowns, and outright fails. Join us for check-in on where we are and where we are not. Diversity and Equity: Still a Bunch of Words on a Page or Actual Zeros on a Paycheque?

April 27, 2023: One of the most significant donors in the world is a woman. Mackenzie Scott has given away $12.8 billion in charitable gifts since 2020. Women have been a force in philanthropy from the beginning of time however it is only in the last two decades that this power has been publicly recognized. Canadian women are no slouches in philanthropy. Anne Tannebaum gave $10 million to the University of Toronto in 1996 to support medical research across U of T’s network of research and clinical partners, creating six chairs in the burgeoning fields of neuroscience and molecular medicine, part of Tanenbaum’s support for advancing research in Alzheimer’s disease. In 2018, Gina Cody, an Iranian immigrant, named the first engineering school in Canada named for a woman at Concordia University with her gift of $15 million.

Our guest speakers are Suzanne Duncan, Vice President of Philanthropy, Canadian Women's Foundation; Wafa Kadri, Manager of Global Social Responsibility, Cenovus Energy; and Dr. Sharilyn Hale, President, Watermark Philanthropic Counsel.
