VITREO FUNDRAISING ASK ANYTHING ZOOM CHATS

Join us for a reprise of our Fundraising Ask Anything Zoom events. We started Season 1 with a general conversation among friends and colleagues last April. These events proved immensely popular and we ended up doing eight in total. On October 16, we launched the new season with our session titled: Pandemic +7: The Check-in. Earlier today, we did our second session: The Giving Season: The Digital Edition. We will be concluding the second season with a drop-in video call on December 18. I have had the privilege of working with Meg on her quest to establish a Podcasting Center of Excellence at MRU. "Calgarians in a wide range of fields are being recognized for their contributions to the city in Avenue Magazine’s 2020 list of the Top 40 Under 40. The annual list is comprised of Calgarians who excel in their work and are instrumental in shaping and promoting the city in business, the arts, community building and the non-profit sector."

Former Alberta MP Don Mazankowski, Companion of Order of Canada, dies at 85 (Edmonton Journal) CANADIAN STORY Mr. Mazankowski, I had the pleasure of working with you when I worked at the University of Alberta where you helped in so many ways not least of which was co-chairing the UofA's first comprehensive capital campaign. RIP. We will not see your like again. "Former Alberta member of Parliament Don Mazankowski is being remembered as a man who reached the heights of political power and influence in Ottawa while staying true to his rural roots and being kind to those who disagreed with him. Mazankowski, who was named a Companion of the Order of Canada in 2013 for a lifetime of public service, died Tuesday night. He was 85."
  1. Max Ward, bush pilot turned Canadian aviation pioneer, has died (CBC) CANADIAN STORY I fondly remember flying Wardair. RIP Mr. Ward. We will not see your like again. "Canadian aviation pioneer Max Ward died Monday [...]. He was 98. Ward was born in Edmonton in 1921. He served as a flight instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War before becoming a bush pilot. In 1953, he founded Wardair in Yellowknife. By 1989, the airline would become the third-largest airline in Canada. Ward sold the airline to Canadian Airlines that year."

Hundreds of coal mining jobs to end as TransAlta switches to natural gas (CBC) ALBERTA STORY "TransAlta will end operations at Highvale thermal coal mine by the end of 2021 as it switches to natural gas at all of its coal-fired plants in Canada. The announcement brings with it hundreds of job losses and comes four years earlier than TransAlta originally planned."
