AFP 2019 Congress: Raise the Work

AFP 2019 Congress: Raise the Work

November 25th to 27th 2019

Address: Metro Toronto Convention Centre

Success in our profession is often measured by immediate financial results. We look for the safest and most affordable way to raise funds for this fiscal quarter or this fiscal year. Meanwhile we must carefully navigate shifting priorities and manage an overload of information.

In this environment, it is easy to forget an important truth: that we can’t just focus on raising money to support the most urgent goal. We need to recharge, to discover new ways of thinking, to support each other, and collaborate together to elevate the profession.

We need to raise the work.

Like any industry, it is important that fundraisers take time to invest in ourselves and step up our game, because even the slightest improvement can lead to the biggest breakthrough.

And unlike most industries, when we get better at our work we can really improve lives and make the world a better place. That’s why Congress 2019 is about those choices we make – both big and small – to be better.

We call it “Raising the Work” – the combination of passion, grit, and intelligence we need to raise the quality of our practice to meet the challenges of fundraising in the 21st century.

With nearly 100 sessions across every area of expertise, Congress is the premier professional development experience for fundraisers providing the support you need to find your edge, take that extra step, and change the world.

Do you Want that Name on your Building? Disruption in Philanthropic Naming in Canada

Tuesday, November 26, 2019 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm | Vincent Duckworth, CFRE and Suzanne Duncan, MA, CFRE

Philanthropic naming and sponsorship rights are a crucial component to philanthropy and having the right policies in place can breathe new life into your fundraising program. In this session, Vincent and Suzanne, in Part II of their widely acclaimed joint presentation on naming at AFP Congress 2018, will share what’s disrupting philanthropic naming in Canada and how you can prepare policies which will protect your organization. Should you have a cannabis company as a sponsor? What are the issues (and opportunities) with accepting a planned gift as a naming gift? These are just a few of the topics we will be discussing in this session.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the best practices and policies for a naming and sponsorship program that not only pleases donors but also protects your organization

  • Understand what’s disrupting naming in Canada right now
