Governor General’s Conference on Giving: Working Together for the Common Good

Andrea McManus has been invited to join the discussion at His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston's conference on Giving. We are very excited for the new insights, she will share and receive at this prodigious event.

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, seeks to deepen our understanding of the factors that motivate Canadians to give and the barriers that limit their ability to do so. That’s why he is pleased to host a one-day conference entitled Working Together for the Common Good, which will take place at Rideau Hall on April 27, 2017, during National Volunteer Week.

Non-profit sector leaders, fund development professionals, representatives of corporate and government charitable initiatives, and members of academia focused on giving behaviour will be invited to this event. Together, they will share views on current trends in giving and how this behaviour can best be encouraged. The conference will provide a ‘state of the nation’ on giving, take a values-based lens to understanding how and why millennials are giving, and explore how the application of behavioural sciences can encourage giving behaviour.

The conference will also serve as a means of formally closing the My Giving Moment (MGM) campaign—a national initiative inspired by His Excellency to encourage giving among millennials in an effort to build a smarter and more caring country. The conference will reconnect MGM partners and highlight the results of the four-year campaign.
