Andrea McManus, CFRE
Andrea McManus is known for her passionate belief in philanthropy and the value of the nonprofit sector in Canadian society. With 30 years experience in fund development, marketing, sponsorship and nonprofit management she has worked with, trained and educated organizations and fundraisers throughout North America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and Egypt. A highly strategic thinker and change maker, Andrea has worked with organizations that span the nonprofit sector with particular focus on building long-term and sustainable capacity that is firmly anchored in a philanthropic culture through all levels of the organization.
Andrea is currently working with a unique and forward thinking campaign that is a collaboration of nine separate social service agencies raising $120 million for affordable social housing. The first of its kind in North America, RESOLVE is a forerunner of a new way of looking at philanthropy and philanthropic fundraising. Andrea has been involved with RESOLVE from its inception through it successful and challenging execution.
A leader in the nonprofit sector locally, nationally and internationally, Andrea was the first person outside of the United States to hold the position of Chair of the International Board (2011-12) of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). She currently chairs the AFP Canada Government Relations Committee and has held numerous leadership positions at the local, national and international levels of AFP. Andrea has also completed the nonprofit corporate director course at the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Andrea has been deeply embedded in the Canadian nonprofit sector dialogue for over 20 years. She has sat on numerous local and national initiatives to strengthen the sector including the Imagine Canada Ethical Code Advisory Committee and is founding Board Chair of the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (CCVO). She currently sits on the Canada Revenue Agency’s Charities Technical Issues Working Group, is a Trustee for the Alberta Cancer Foundation, a member of the national board of the International Women’s Forum Canada, a director of Keppoch Estates Limited and a member of the Imagine Canada Philanthropy project.
Andrea was a recipient of the 2005 National Post Award for Business in the Arts Award of Distinction for best Arts/Entrepreneur Partnership, was recognized by the AFP Calgary Chapter as the 2007 Outstanding Fundraising Professional and in 2012 received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her contributions to the non-profit sector in Canada. She is an AFP Master Trainer and contributing author to four books on nonprofit management and fundraising, including ‘Excellence in Canadian Fundraising’, the first book published on fundraising in Canada for Canadian fundraisers.
Andrea is a graduate of Mt. St. Vincent’s University in Halifax.
